Prescient Weather Ltd, a leader in subseasonal and seasonal (S2S) climate forecasting, is looking for a Meteorological Engineer & Product Developer to help shape the future of weather intelligence. Our solutions support critical agriculture, energy, and insurance industries, providing real-time weather and climate insights that impact global commodity markets.

This role will be pivotal in developing and enhancing our suite of weather and climate products across the World Climate Service and CropProphet brands. It will focus on translating complex meteorological data into user-friendly solutions for decision-making and customer profit generation. The ideal candidate will have expertise in the scientific nuances of S2S forecasting and experience in the energy and/or agricultural sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain meteorological products for various platforms, including web applications, APIs, and data feeds.
  • Collaborate with the Prescient Weather team to define product requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
  • Implement and optimize algorithms for efficiently processing and analyzing large model forecast and reforecast archives.
  • Develop and implement data visualization tools and techniques to effectively communicate forecast information.
  • Engage with customers and stakeholders to provide technical support, respond to customer inquiries, and seek customer feedback
  • Conduct rigorous testing and validation of developed products to ensure accuracy, reliability, and performance.
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in meteorological science, technology, and product development.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of our product development processes; participate in brainstorming sessions and contribute innovative ideas for new product concepts.
  • Support the sales and marketing team by providing technical expertise and product demonstrations

 

 

Qualifications

  • S. in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees (M.S. or Ph.D.) are valued and may be beneficial, but all candidates with significant applied experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong programming skills in Python (essential) and other languages (e.g., R, JavaScript)
  • Experience working with meteorological datasets (e.g. GRIB, NetCDF) and modern tools for efficiently processing and visualizing them (e.g. xarray, scipy, cartopy)
  • Passion for developing innovative and impactful products.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud) is preferred.
  • Expertise in S2S and medium-range forecasting, climate modeling, and ensemble prediction systems is desired.
  • Experience in the agriculture, energy, or insurance industries is a plus.

Demonstration of Capability

Travel

  • Occasional travel for conferences and customer meetings may be required.
